What You’ll Do
Astrape Networks seeks an ambitious Junior Automation Engineer to join our team, with a clear path toward pursuing a PhD. This role is designed for aspiring researchers eager to bridge the gap between advanced control systems engineering and cutting-edge research in photonic systems. Beyond contributing to automation and control design tasks, the role involves defining and developing a dedicated research project in collaboration with Astrape’s R&D team and academic partners. The ultimate goal is to lay the foundation for a PhD journey focused on innovative control strategies for next-generation photonic networks.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement automation and control strategies for photonic systems.

Design, simulate and validate control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink and Python.

Support model-based design processes, focusing on advanced and robust control techniques.

Assist in the setup and configuration of automation frameworks and control systems.

Collaborate with the R&D team to integrate control solutions into experimental setups.

Analyze and interpret system behavior data to refine control performance.

Document control strategies, models and results for product development.

Define and lead an independent research project in photonic control systems, laying the groundwork for a future PhD thesis.
Who You are
You are a proactive and curious Master's student with a passion for automation and control systems. With a foundational understanding of control models and automation concepts, you are eager to apply your knowledge in a hands-on, fast-paced environment. You have experience with MATLAB/Simulink and Python and are comfortable working with data, simulations and troubleshooting tasks. If you have basic knowledge of C/C++ or symbolic computation tools, that’s a plus. Your adaptability, attention to detail and collaborative mindset make you a valuable contributor to innovative automation solutions for advanced photonic systems at Astrape Networks.
