What You’ll Do
As a Photonics Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, simulating and optimizing photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and both passive and active optical components to advance next-generation photonics technology for sustainable data centers. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including characterization, packaging and system integration engineers, to develop high-performance photonic solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Design: Lead the design and optimization of photonic integrated circuits for data center applications.

Simulation & Modelling: Develop and execute numerical simulations for optical waveguides and passive/active photonic components using industry-standard tools (e.g., Lumerical, Ansys, Synopsys).

Process & Fabrication Collaboration: Work closely with foundries and fabrication partners to ensure manufacturability, process compatibility and yield optimization.

EDA & Layout Design: Develop mask layouts for fabrication using software such as KLayout, Cadence, or similar tools, ensuring design rule compliance and process compatibility.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside packaging, electronics and software teams to co-design solutions that enhance overall system performance.

Innovation & Technology Roadmap: Drive innovation by exploring emerging photonics technologies, improving existing architectures and contributing to the company’s long-term technology strategy.

Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed design documentation, reports and technical presentations .

Mentorship: Guide junior engineers and researchers.
Who You are
You are an experienced photonics engineer with expertise in PIC design, optical components and system integration. With 5+ years of experience, you excel in designing, simulating and optimizing photonic devices using tools like Lumerical, Synopsys or Ansys. You understand semiconductor fabrication processes, collaborate with foundries and work closely with testing teams to refine designs. A problem-solver with strong analytical skills, you thrive in cross-functional teams, effectively communicating complex technical concepts.
